Welcome to Year 1 with Mr Hughes, Miss Orchard and Mrs Muzeja. This is an exciting year when the children progress from the Foundation Stage to Key Stage One.

In Year 1, we will build upon the strong foundations which have already been laid in Foundation 2. During English lessons, we will continue with Drawing Club during the first half term, which will then progress onto 'Curious Quests'. More information about this will be shared at our Year One Parent Information Meeting. Our main focus will be to say out loud the sentence which we want to write before using our phonics skills to write it down. In Phonics, we will progress to Phase 5, where we will be learning new graphemes to use within our reading and writing. In Maths, we will continue to use concrete resources to develop a deep understanding of numbers to 20. 

Throughout the year, we will engage in various 'Projects', which will become our focus during each of the terms. They will include:

How can one person change the world?

Spring - Explore.

How is one day different around the world?

Summer - Create.

Is all art beautiful?

We are really looking forward to seeing the children's independence develop throughout the year as they are equipped with new skills. Throughout the year, the children will be provided with countless opportunities to embed these skills and their learning will be enriched with opportunities which make their learning engaging and exciting.
