European Games Week!

Abbey Gates was a hive of sporting activity this half term with all classes participating in our European Games! We began learning the classic French game of pétanque with volunteers from the Ravenshead Pétanque Club. We had a fantastic day and the volunteers even spotted a few potential stars of the future!

Each class also learnt a playground game from a European country, which they shared with the rest of school during our finale morning. The event was a huge success, with many children coming dressed in the colours of their country to enjoy a morning of games from around Europe.

Here are just a few of the highlights...

Spain - Mar y Tierra

Poland - Burning Ball

This Polish game is similar to "Around the World" where a ball is kept in play whilst the players run around the table. Player 1 bounces the ball across the table, player 2 must return it. Once a player has "hit" the ball, they run around to the other end and join the queue.
