At Abbey Gates, we deliver our RSHE curriculum through 'Let's Talk' — a scheme that gives children from EYFS to Year 6 the chance to talk through issues relevant to their lives, in an open and age-appropriate way. Three themes run throughout: how children see themselves as individuals, how they relate to their peers, and how their choices and actions affect others.

How it's structured
Each year group from Year 1 to Year 6 covers twelve units across the year; EYFS covers eight. Every unit is built around a story, alongside a child-friendly scenario that helps children link the theme to situations they may recognise from their own lives, and a simple dilemma to help them think it through. New vocabulary is introduced before each session, and activities are talk-based rather than writing-heavy — children might create a table, list, drawing or diagram, individually, in pairs, in groups or as a class.

Why we use it
Children need opportunities to talk about the things that matter to them, whether that's something they're working through personally, an issue with friends, or something affecting the wider world. Let's Talk gives our teachers a safe, structured way to explore these real-life issues through stories, scenarios and dilemmas that fit naturally into the school week.
