Spelling
Within the Primary Curriculum, children are expected to know and be able to spell this statutory list by the end of Year 4. Of course these are not the only words that children are expected to spell accurately.
Year 4 weekly spellings
In year 4, during this spring term, we are focusing on learning how to spell the year 3 and 4 common exception words. These words do not follow any spelling patterns or rules.
We will work on ten words each week and competence and fluency in spelling will be informally tested each week on a Monday as well as assessing to see whether the children can apply their spelling accuracy in their independent writing in lessons.
Please do encourage your children to learn the spellings that are sent home each Monday in preparation for the following week. Thank you in advance for your continued support.

Spelling rules and homework
Here, you will find information about all of the spelling rules that we will cover in year 4.
This has been split into terms so that not only can you go back and recap rules that have already been taught, but you can also see what is coming up if you want to put in a bit of extra practise and get a head start.
You will also see that this is the place to find an electronic copy of the weekly homework just in case your paper copy goes missing or again, you would like to do a spot of revision.
