How has mining shaped our local area?

We are thrilled to kick off our year with our Discover Project, which will focus on history. During the first half-term, our big question will be, "What does it take to conquer?”. Children will build on their knowledge of the Romans from Year 4 and explore how the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings invaded Britain.

After half-term, our focus will shift to "How has mining shaped our local area?" where we will explore coal-mining in Nottinghamshire. Children will investigate what life was like for young workers in coal mines during the Victorian era, exploring the harsh conditions they endured, the dangers they faced, and the impact this work had on their daily lives and future opportunities.
