Learning Together & Making a Difference

Language

French

Autumn term

This term, our French unit is called In a French Classroom. In this unit, we will start to learn some imperative (bossy) verbs by learning some classroom instruction vocabulary. We will also start to learn about the idea of masculine and feminine words in French and how we can use our language detective skills to identify them. We will learn how to respond to and give out simple instructions, learn the French words for common classroom items, begin to form simple sentences to say what we have/don't have and start to use the conjunctions 'and' and 'but'. By the end of this unit, we will also start to practise writing simple sentences in French to describe what we have in our school bag.

Spring Term

This term, our French unit is called Portraits - describing in French. In this unit, we will learn how to describe people, places, things and actions both orally and in writing. We will also learn some French grammar rules, looking in particular at the order of words in a sentence, language patterns, and how it is different to English, as well as being introduced to the concept of masculine and feminine words (nouns) in French and how the spelling of the adjective being used can be different, depending on the type of noun it is describing.
