At Abbey Gates, we have designed our own phonics scheme to best support the children with their learning. 

During this introductory phase, children will become attuned to the different sounds around them. They will also learn to orally segment and blend simple words.

Here are the seven aspects that children will be taught during Phase 1:

• Aspect 2: Instrumental Sounds.
• Aspect 3: Body Percussion.
• Aspect 4: Rhythm and Rhyme.
• Aspect 5: Alliteration.
• Aspect 6: Voice Sounds.
• Aspect 7: Oral Blending and Segmenting.
